Chris and I came from nothing. We’re selfmade. We started with nothing, so we have nothing to lose. And we have everything to gain.

We’ve got a Rolls-Royce Phantom, a Mercedes SLR McLaren, a Cherokee Jeep, and … a Renault Clio! We’ve had Ferraris, Aston Martins, Porsches. We’ve probably got about 10 cars.

Our clients pay for value. London is the top city in the world, the best tax haven in the world for some and the top residential site in the city is One Hyde Park at the top end of Sloane Street.

No one should buy on reputation alone. They should come and see it and inspect it, feel it and touch it.

It’s true we’ve got some fantastic clients. We’re very fortunate to be connected with the movers and shakers of all the global cities of the world. You can usually tell when we’ve got a client in here because their bodyguards are all over the place: two outside the front door, two in the lobby, one in the lift…

In New York and Los Angeles, you can throw your car keys to the valet and he parks it. Same in Hong Kong and Singapore, the service is off the scale. In London it’s sub-standard to abysmal.

London has got better as it’s become more international – you only have to look at the quality of the restaurants to see how improved it’s become.

The final key to the way I promote is bravado. I play to people’s fantasies. People may not always think big themselves. but they can get very excited by those who do. That is why a little hyperbole never hurts. People want to believe that something is the biggest, the greatest and the most spectacular.

I foresee the time when industry shall no longer denude the forests which require generations to mature, nor use up the mines which were ages in making, but shall draw its raw material largely from the annual produce of the fields. I am convinced that we shall be able to get out of yearly crops most of the basic materials which we now get from forest and mine.

My philosophy is that if I have any money I invest it in new ventures and not have it sitting around.

Advertising people who ignore research are as dangerous as generals who ignore decodes of enemy signals.

The Golden Rule finds no limit of application in business.

The thought in my mind was that I must be a good merchant. If I were a good merchant, the rest would probably take care of itself.

People in the beauty community don’t like copycats, so I think it’s important to stay true to who you are and people will stay your customer.

The best teamwork comes from men who are working independently toward one goal in unison.

Nothing can be made except by makers, nothing can be managed except by managers. Money cannot make anything and money cannot manage anything.

Always be smarter than the people who hire you.

I think a simple rule of business is, if you do the things that are easier first, then you can actually make a lot of progress.

A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business.

When most people ask about a business growing, what they really mean is growing revenue, not just growing the number of people using a service. Traditional businesses would view people using your service that you don’t make money from as a cost.

No matter what his position or experience in life, there is in everyone more latent than developed ability; far more unused than used power.
