My daughter hasn’t seen me with anybody in five years. I’m very, very selective when it comes to that because I want to make sure that it’s real. I don’t want her to see me with just anybody because she means everything to me.

When you get a chance to step back, you notice all these great things you’ve done and all these great people that you’ve worked with.

It’s VH1, it’s everywhere, and you know music is just the world right now. People love music.

When I was a little girl, I remember carrying my orange UNICEF carton with me as I went Trick-or-Treating.

It may not be the best in someone else’s eyes, but it’s the best I can do.

I wrote my own verses. Anything I did, I wrote myself.

Thank you to Kanye West and the fact that he is willing to tell the TRUTH. One new and great FACT – African American unemployment is the lowest ever recorded in the history of our Country. So honored by this. Thank you Kanye for your support. It is making a big difference!

It’s OK to quote from your past. But I’m more interested in quoting from my present and pointing towards the future.

I like America, just as everybody else does. I love America, I gotta say that. But America will be judged.

I don’t fit the mold. In this country, success usually happens when you are 22 and six feet tall. Clearly, by asking that question they are kind of letting me know that I am an aberration.

An awful lot of gay pop stars pretend to be straight. I’m going to start a movement of straight pop stars pretending to be gay.

Don’t waste your energy trying to educate or change opinions; go over, under, through, and opinions will change organically when you’re the boss. Or they won’t. Who cares? Do your thing, and don’t care if they like it.

It’s been quite a journey. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world!

It’s impossible to get along with David Geffen — his mind just moves so quickly. He’s always brighter than everybody else. I kept saying to him, ‘Sweetheart, you have a sweet side to you, a vulnerable side, but then you can be so mean and awful to people. Yeah, people are terrified of David — his temper, his intelligence. He’s not afraid of anybody.

My love for the band is still there. It hasn’t changed, maybe that’s why it’s so painful these days.

I think everyone’s intentions are to become a performer at first. But by the time I was in high school and college, I discovered that I liked writing and that I was probably a little better at it.

To be honest, I don’t want No. 1’s anymore. Now, don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t mind the odd few, but I’d also like a record going in at eight and staying around.

When you go to Marvel, they lock you in a room with the scripts; they really are that secretive.

I haven’t really decided to be an actor yet! I started doing plays when I was about 15 or 16. I only did it because my dad saw a bunch of pretty girls in a restaurant and he asked them where they came from and they said drama group. He said “Son, that is where you need to go”.

We are following other people’s opinions. We are controlled by the media. And today it all changes.

I started working on trying to sound like June from the very beginning.
