Rather than say I play Jazz, I simply say I play music.

When I write songs that touch on social relevance, all you have to do is pick up a newspaper.

Paint pictures with sound. First, find your white-the deepest, roundest sound you can play on the guitar. Then, find your black-which is the most extreme tonal difference from white you can play. Now, just pick the note where you’ve got white, pick it where you’ve got black, and then find all those colors in between. Get those colors down, and you’ll be able to express almost any emotion on the guitar.?

You’ve got to learn your instrument.

I do Jazz, Blues, Country and so forth. I do them all like a good utility man.

If you already have a piece of music ingrained in your body, why would you not play it?

People like the idea of the trio and so I did mostly trio.

In olden days a glimpse of stocking was looked on as something shocking, now heaven knows, anything goes.

I think I’ve tried to stay true to my music since the beginning. It’s kind of hard because of the access and technology but I just do what I do.

It’s up to the individual to keep up with the times.

The inspired moment may sometimes be described as a kind of hallucinatory state of mind: one half of the personality emotes and dictates while the other half listens and notates. The half that listens has better look the other way, had better simulate a half attention only, for the half that dictates is easily disgruntled and avenges itself for too close inspection by fading entirely away.

If you are not doing what you love, you are wasting your time!
