What we do as artists is a combination of experience and imagination. How that creeps into your work is not so linear.

Love songs last because they are about feelings that don’t change.

I work very hard at being the best musician I can be because I love it.

You want the listener to find the song on their own, give too much away and it takes away from the imagination.

Dance music-as I keep saying, you can dance to a windshield wiper… a windshield wiper that’s fairly steady gives you a beat and all you need is an out-of-tune playing ‘Melancholy Baby’ and you’ve got dance music.

I wanna hear myself everywhere

Don’t worry about playing a lot of notes. Just find one pretty one.

There are wonderful things in Jazz, the improvisation, the liveliness, the being at one with the audience.

Anybody can write music of a sort. But touching the public heart is quite another thing.

I’m not like a legend that – so I’m sort of in the middle in this sort of gray area where, you know, I’m creating music, and I’m not saying there isn’t an audience, because there is; because all of those people go out and spend $80 to $150 on a concert ticket.

I would’ve loved to have been in a band, but sadly I just wasn’t good enough.
