I didn’t have high self-esteem when I was a teenager, as I think most teenagers don’t.

Canada has a passive-aggressive culture, with a lot of sarcasm and righteousness. That went with my weird messianic complex. The ego is a fascinating monster. I was taught from a young age that I had to serve, so that turned into me thinking I had to save the planet.

Anything I do has to be directly related to my music. If it isn’t, I don’t really see a point to it.

I started playing piano when I was 6. And I knew that wanted to be involved in that form of expression, whether it was through music, or acting, or dancing, or painting, or writing.

I’ll keep evolving and put that into my songs.

To me the biggest irony of this lifetime that I’m living is that for someone who thrives in the public eye in the creative ways that I do, I actually don’t enjoy being in the public eye.

If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliche that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that’s his problem. Love and peace are eternal.

Die, but do not retreat.

When you get to the top, don’t forget to send the elevator down for the next guy.

We don’t see the things the way they are. We see things the way WE are.

Listen to the birds and don’t hate nobody.

I know that god is real. I have seen him smile through the sunlight as it dances across your skin and lays gently at your feet.

I can visualize the time when almost every family will have a small plane in their back yard.

Sometimes, the only way to discover who you are or what life you should lead is to do less planning and more living…

These are our neighbours, our co-workers, friends’ children… the problem is closer than you think, but so is the solution.

Drama and crisis are currency to them because they love the power to make people react. They thrive on a good fight, a good scandal, a good drama.

The Argument from Intimidation is a confession of intellectual impotence.

Time and space are modes by which we think and not conditions in which we live.

To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.

The fact that man knows right from wrong proves his intellectual superiority to other creatures; but the fact that he can do wrong proves his moral inferiority to any creature that cannot.

We are always seeking for those things which are in the clouds, not for those that lie at our feet.
