At this very moment, you may be saying to yourself that you have any number of admirable qualities. You are a loyal friend, a caring person, someone who is smart, dependable, fun to be around. That’s wonderful, and I’m happy for you, but let me ask you this: are you being any of those things to yourself?

You would worry less about what people think, if you knew how little they did.

Like an enemy I knew as intimately as any friend, I came to know the nagging, constant emptiness of the incongruent life. I ignored myself and lived for people, purposes, and goals that weren’t my own. I betrayed who I was and instead accepted a fictional substitute that was defined from the outside in.

You don’t need a rope to pinch a stranger’s butt.

The quickest way from A to B is not always at the most feverish pace.

Life experiences, mental illness, drugs, greed, environment, and poor role-modeling can all forge damaged people and can generate a darkness, an exploitiveness, in the way they approach life. Whatever their genesis, there are people in your life (and mine) who will hurt you if you let them.

Life is not a success-only journey. You are going to get beat up along the way. And you’ve got to have the strength of character to get up and get back in the game.

Things that seemed simple and superfluous had some meaning, maybe it wasn’t a great meaning, it didn’t shake the world…

How I wish that somewhere there existed an island for those who are wise and of good will.

If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living.

When you embark for strange places don’t leave any of yourself safely at the shore… Have the nerve to go into unexplored territory.

We’re so afraid of each other… Colour, wealth, these things that don’t really matter still play too much of a role in how we see one another. And it’s sad, because the thing that least defines us is the colour of our skin.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

There is no mistake in nature.

The skill of writing is to create a context in which other people can think.

When I am old, weather-worn, and grey, I want to fill my lungs with your perfume and hear your laughter echo through our home as we dance alone in our living room, drunk off wine, still madly in love.

We are here for experience, and experience is a preparation to know the Truth when we meet it.

Don’t criticize what you can’t understand.
