Jazz – it takes passion to make it happen!

My neighbors always listen to very hip Jazz… whether they like it or not.

Jazz music has always made powerful statements about freedom, creativity and personal identity.

Music is what feelings sound like.

While many attempts have been made to define Jazz, what’s the point really. Jazz is to be experienced – period.

Jazz improvisation is an elusive genius.

To me, the guitar cuts through. It carries more than the organ, but the organ has got more guts.

The greatest moments of the human spirit may be deduced from the greatest moments in music.

When you want ’em you can’t get ’em, when you’ve got ’em, you don’t want ’em.

It is better to be felt than to be heard.

There is no truer truth obtainable by man than comes of music.

I hate straight singing. I have to change a tune to my own way of doing it. That’s all I know

I like jazz, rock n’ roll, some hip hop – I can’t think of any music I don’t like.

So much of Jazz doesn’t have an audience other than music students or musicians.

Jazz is a living music; since its beginning has expressed the feelings, dreams and hopes of the people.

Anybody can write music of a sort. But touching the public heart is quite another thing.

Hell, nobody knows where jazz is going to go. There may be a kid right now in Chitlin Switch, Georgia, who is going to come along and upset everybody.

I’m… a rather simple person with a limited talent and perhaps a limited perspective.

Most of the soloists at Birdland had to wait for Parker’s next record in order to find out what to play next. What will they do now?

Love songs last because they are about feelings that don’t change.

You can practice to learn technique, but I’m more interested in conceiving something in the moment.
