What is striking, however, is the pomposity and self-importance, at each stage.

The Middle East is hopeful. There’s hope there.

What happened to the confidence and ideals of the European dream? The EU was set up to protect freedom. It was the Soviet Union that stopped people leaving.

Once wide coercive powers are given to government agencies…such powers cannot be effectively controlled.

The Russian people have unilaterally made their choice in direction of democracy in the early ’90s. They will not be led astray. Nobody should be having any doubts.

All attempts to appease the Nazis between 1934 and 1939 through various agreements and pacts were morally unacceptable and politically senseless, harmful and dangerous.

No references to the need to fight terror can be an argument for restricting human rights.

Socialism is the same as Communism, only better English.

Gratitude is a sickness suffered by dogs.

You can’t make decisions based on fear and the possibility of what might happen.
