Power begins with having a crystal-clear view of reality and what each and every person in your life is driven by.

Everybody should have the opportunity to do and be everything they can be.

At the end of the day, whether or not those people are comfortable with how you’re living your life doesn’t matter. What matters is whether you’re comfortable with it.

How often, for example, have you said or heard someone else say, “All I really want in this life is to be happy”? It sounds like a commonsense answer, but as a life goal, it is destined for failure. My dog, Barkley, wants to be happy. Does that mean that the two of you want the same things? I don’t think so. I’ll bet everything I own that you and Barkley define happiness very differently. So unless you’re willing to settle for someone scratching your belly and letting you sleep under the coffee table, you might want to be a little more precise about what you as a unique individual really want.

Most choices are driven by immediate results.

If the world comes to an end, I want to be in Cincinnati. Everything comes there ten years later.

Am I ever gonna grow a thick skin? No.

2 is not equal to 3, not even for large values of 2.

Life is managed; it is not cured.

The genius of the American people is Self-Reliance.

We have not the reverent feeling for the rainbow that a savage has, because we know how it is made. We have lost as much as we gained by prying into that matter.

I was gratified to be able to answer promptly, and I did. I said I didn’t know.

If the human mind was simple enough to understand, we’d be too simple to understand it.

Only when you are kinder to yourself, you can be kinder to the world.

We all have a social mask, right? We put it on, we go out, put our best foot forward, our best image. But behind that social mask is a personal truth, what we really, really believe about who we are and what we’re capable of.

People are never so likely to be wrong as when they are organized. And they never have so little freedom. Perhaps that is why the people at large keep their freedom. People can be manipulated only when they are organized.

Public opinion is held in reverence. It settles everything. Some think it is the voice of God.

But to do for the world more than the world does for you, that is Success.
