There were no role models, there were no other people I knew who were dealing with the same issues that I was dealing with. I had no idea if this was a stage I was going through or not. But I go to the draft board in Brooklyn and I fill out the form and there was a question that said ‘Do you have homosexual tendencies?’ and I check yes. But where-ever I was on line I’d see people I went to high school with and I was afraid of anyone knowing this about me so I kept on falling back into line and falling back into line. If you said you had homosexual tendencies they sent you to a psychiatrist. He said ‘I see here you’ve checked the box?’ And I said ‘yup’. He said ‘So do you think you’d have a problem serving in the armed forces?’ I said well you know ‘So many men.’ And I was out of the service.
It was character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us into action, and discipline that enabled us to follow through.
You are never too old to set another goal or to dream another dream.
80 Percent of the constraints, the factors that are holding you back from achieving your goals, are internal.
The problem is not the problem; the problem is your attitude about the problem.
You just do it. You force yourself to get up. You force yourself to put one foot in front of the other, and God damn it, you refuse to let it get to you. You fight. You cry. You curse. Then you go about the business of living. That’s how I’ve done it. There’s no other way.
Surround your mind with healthy thoughts, thoughts of faith, and not fear, and you will produce faith results instead of fear results.
To be candid, some people have given positive thinking a bad name. I can’t stand to hear some gung-ho individual say that with positive thinking you can just do ‘anything.’ If you think about that one for a moment, you recognize the absurdity of it.
Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change.
Have some fire. Be unstoppable. Be a force of nature. Be better than anyone here. And don’t give a damn what anyone thinks.
Successful people are those who are willing to delay gratification and make sacrifices in the short term so that they can enjoy far greater rewards in the long term.
Don’t be distracted by criticism. Remember – the only taste of success some people have is when they take a bite out of you.
Keep on trying… each failure is one step closer to a success.
The ability to manage well doesn’t make much difference if you’re not even in the right jungle.
